I have quite a story to tell you. Read carefully. My mother and father live with each each other as well as me in the same house. Yet my mother has long-term depression and is on almost every anti psychotic, anti depressant thats on the market. Trust me I am a pharmacy technician, interestingly enough. Basically when she was young she had a miscarriage, was raped, parents left her for her "husband", and she cant seem to move on from the past. The perfect candidate for a depressant according to the books. Now my mother and father are divorced but they have been living together for past 20 years. Its very complicated I know, sorry. She has been getting bad suicidal tendencies, last night she was about to Overdose on her medications, because she could take "life" anymore. Suicidal thoughts are more recurring than ever before. I thought about signing her to a facility for a vacation from work etc. But I don't think there is an answer to this except live with it, what do you think? Thanks.

clinical depression is usually caused by an organic process. it sounds like your mother is also suffering from psychological trauma from her past. seeing a psychologist also would be a good idea. it is not usual to give a depressed person anti psychotic medication. has she had to same doctor for some time? perhaps admittance to a psychiatric facility would be a good idea, so she might get a complete medication review, because they do not seem to be working, although her past trauma could also be the cause of the medication not working. also do not feel bad if u have to sign her in, it may be best for her, and maybe a change of doctor may help too. good luck hope things get better for u and your mother.

It seems like a good idea to find a facility that can help her since what she has been doing are not enough. There are full-time facilities and day time programs (patients go through daily therapy, group work, lectures, etc. but sleep at home).
Check with your local hospitals. Catholic Charities, family services, local universities might be able to help you find a counselor or direct you to other resources.
For example, Stanford University offers out patient therapy with their graduate students. Stanford also has clinical studies and needs to find particpants/volunteers.
If you think a spiritual retreat might help, see your local churches know of resources or retreat centers that might be appropriate.
BTW, you and your dad might benefit from joining a support group.
Depression is tough and draining. I commend you both for standing by her.

A vacation from HER work? If she's going to work then her depression is not severe...maybe bad, but not severe.
Unfortunately, your mom has all the info already. She has to be willing to get better in order to get better.
Research shows that couselling in combo with the right meds is more effective than either one alone.
If you live in or near a big city, there is likely a clinic specifically for depression. Call them, find out who the expert is in your area. Then get your mom to go. Depression is often treatable.
Good luck.

First of all, let me say how sorry I am for your mother's plight. Having struggled with depression in varying degrees myself over the years, it isn't easy to overcome.
I do wonder why people can't get over what happened to them in the past. I remember reading somewhere that people like that feel comfortable in a way with the bad feelings and having bad feelings makes them feel alive somehow.
Do you have Jesus in your life? The only thing I can think of to say to you is to ask Jesus to help you and your mother.
Best of luck.

Your mother has deep psychological problems and until they are truly dealt with she will continue in this state. When I was young I was sexually abused (molestation / incest). I lived with guilt and fear for so long, was depressed and on medication. I sought the Lord for my healing. The road was not easy but today I am not on medication of any kind. I will be praying to God for your mother's healing and for you to have strength to go through this.
God bless you.
