This woman I work with is a total pothead, and I know for a fact she starts smoking as soon as she gets in the car to go home, does it a few times every night, and sometimes on the way to work. Basically, she's almost always high. I'm not normally anal about what people do with their lives, but the main thing here is that I work in a preschool and she is responsible for caring for about ten 2 year olds all day, that's why this bothers me. I don't feel like it's fair that these parents are dropping their kids off at our center and putting them in the care of this girl and have no idea. Do I have a right to tell my boss? The people that work around this girl all know it also, but they're all good friends, so they don't say anything.

oh yes you should! An employer has a right to do random drug testing if they have any suspension or find a reason to. You could talk to your boss of the record and then he/she can do something on their end. You have to look at it from the parents perspective. Would you want your child being watched by someone who was high? Something seriously wrong could happen and this person wouldn't be 100% to handle anything. Please say something... for the sake of the children who are innocent.

I think at times like these you need to put yourself in the parents point of view....meaning if you had a child (you didn't mention so I am unsure) would you fully trust her to care for your child? if the answer is not then of course! Report her immediately!!! I would definitely report it and would have the first time I smelled anything!! You can also suggest that the boss pops a random drug screen on everyone in the building...Chances are good that if the others are really good friends with her and not reporting it they may be doing the same thing.
Good Luck!!!

Yes I would definitely tell your boss, stand up for the innocent children. This is why I think all daycare centers should have random drug testing, among other things.
I have a 3 month old in daycare, and if it were his teacher...I would have her fired! If she was high on the job, I'd have her butt arrested as well.....she is endangering the lives of children. I'm sure the parents would appreciate you getting her out of that daycare.

Yes you need to report this women to your boss. This is hard to do, but if this is truely happening, it is only fair to the parents and mainly to the children that she be reported. This is not a good thing and saftey of the children is priorty. It is also your duty to report it. If you don't feel comfortable talking to the boss then you need to call child protective service. If you do not report it, and they find out, and they find out you knew about it, then you are considered to be dangering a child as well. I know this because I worked in Daycare too.

I dont see how she got the job in the first place.. Dont they get tested before you go to work... I worked in a day care and we had to get back ground check and drug test.. Before they even let us start work.. Yes I would tell your boss and right away.. Would be awful if something happened and you knew before hand that she was using drugs.. You could get in trouble also... It would be no worse then knowing someone was drunk and letting them drive your car and get into accident and kill someone.. You would have to pay...

YES!!! you do have the right to tell the boss. I don't know which country you are in (presumeably USA) but in Australia - it is called "Duty of care" and for her to go to work high on pot is absolultely illegal and is breaching that duty of care.
Being high will mean her ability to function and perform her duties WILL be impaired and children in her care MUST NOT BE PUT AT RISK.
DO what you need to do.

Yes, you do have a right to tell your boss. As a mom - I would be really PO'ed if the person that was caring for my son was high - others knew about it but did nothing.

If shes not doing it before she goes to work and isn't endangering any of the kids I would say no. If you know she does it before work and puts the kids in ANY kind of harm I would say DEFINATLY tell. Is it affecting the care she gives?

This is a really hard question. The thing is you don't know how involved your boss is. And even though there aren't supposed to be reprocutions for telling on someone there almost always is. If I was to say anything to my boss I think I would do it anonymously. Perhaps send her an anonymous note or call in pretending to be an angry parent.

i would probably say something about it.if the girl gets mad, just tell her that she should have found a job that didn't endanger innocent childrens lives.i have a 4yr old and if i found out something like that i would get her fired. i'm sure the parents of these kids would apprieciate you standing up for their kids when they can't stand up for themselves.
