He isn't acting any different and it doesn't appear to hurt him, but wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem. I will probably take him to the vet, but wanted to put this out there first. Thanks!!

It most likely is either:
1. Food allergy - remove fish from diet for at least 4 weeks and see if imporves. Hills feline z/d or Advance Adult chicken do not hve any fish (often they are coatedin fish meal so check the ingredients list)
2. Bacterial / fungal infection / allergy - Often if you use plastic bowls ccats can get like a deremtitis on chin. Change bowls to ceramic or stainless steel and see if improvement over 4 weeks. Or the above caused by something else.
Its often trial and error in find out the cause of these chin dermatitis's.
3. flea allergy - but usually see similar scabs all over body

There could be a number of causes. See if he scratches himself on that area. Sometimes cats can develop "Hot Spots" that for some reason itch or become infected. It could be a flea bite, irritating dirt, a matt, or an injury caused by the cat rubbing his chin or muzzle to mark territory. You don't say that you have more than one cat. A second cat could take a swipe and cause a wound. In most cases, the wound will heal. I've noticed chin scabs on cats many times. We never paid much attention unless constant scratching leads to a hot spot and that has never happened so far! Knock on wood!

It could be common cat acne that your kitty scratched so it scabbed over. The vet gives an ointment for that but the best treatment is changing your cat's dish to a stainless steel one. Cats can get acne on their chins from bacteria left over in plastic kitty bowls - unless you wash the bowl everytime you feed the cat.

First thing's first.

DON'T WORRY.

If it really did hurt your cat, he would show it by scratching the sore, or rubbing it. He probably just scratched it on something. Wait about a week before worrying. After that, put some vitamin E oil on it. If that doesn't work, after another week, take him to the vet.

This happens a lot to cats, so don't be worried. Good luck!

Not all. Before we moved house, one of our neighbour's cats was completely black. I know what you mean about a lot of black cats having a white chin though. My cat is darkly coloured and has no white on her apart from her chin. I think she's the most multi-coloured cat ever. She's black, grey, bronze, ginger and a bit of white on her chin.

I think this is called cat acne and you need to take him to the vet and also get rid of any plastic water or food dishes and switch to metal ones or ceramic. I have heard of this but my cat never got it.

If it is round with hair missing then it might be a ringworm. Your vet can give you a cream to rub on it for about 6 weeks. Dont touch it without gloves because you could get it. My guniea pig had one a few months ago. Good luck.

My cat gets those, too. All it is is dirt, since a cat can't really reach it. Plastic feeding bowls make it worse.

Do you have plastic food dishes? If you do, it is likely feline acne. My cat got this as well, until I changed to ceramic bowls.

It sounds like kitty acne. Try using some acne wipes on it and it should clear up
