Someone made this statement:

"Look at aikido, one of the most effective arts for self defense and it has nothing to do with pounding an attacker into the ground.

I guarntee you, that in an actual street fight most most these so called mixed martial artists wouldn't even last a minute up against an aikido master."

Am I the only one who have a stomach ache from laughing so hard?

Ok... Since you say aikido master would own any MMAist. Well not long ago on this very forum, there was a guy who say he have a connect to a aikido master who wil take on any MMAist. I told him I'll take up the challenge. Guess what happened? He never reply. I guess you are like as all other Aikido master, full of bluff and hot air but no action.

my abs are now hard core six packs from my laughing experience. better than a ab king pro, just assume Aikido is t3h r34l d34dly!

the main thing everyone here forgets is that the masters you see are masters amoung their own art.like a nascar champ is awesome while driving around the same oval, but would sh!t out in the grand prix circuit.

unless you have fought against another style you are only deluding yourself to think that a rank equals a universal placing. ranks are only self reflecting within the style.

not saying that MMA experts are awesome either, but you traditionalists have taking masturbating in the mirror to new heights, and now believe that it is a sign that you are awesome in bed.

classic.

**Sigh**

Only absolute idiots get into street fight unless they absolutely have to. First of all, street fights are not about proving you're Bruce Lee; they're about survival. Get into street fights for fun and sooner or later, someone is going to pull a weapon on you or have half a dozen of his friends pound you into a bloody, unconscious pulp. Or you could get arrested and spend a night in a cell surrounded with people you wouldn't even dream of challenging because they're 10 times as crazy as you are. Furthermore, (let's be clear) - THERE IS NO MARTIAL ART THAT WILL PREPARE YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU MAY ENCOUNTER. That's why smart people try to avoid these situations altogether.

Real street fighting is about getting out of there as unharmed as possible and should only be performed if you are being assaulted. And there can be a very thin line between a fight and an assault. It is illegal to start fighting someone unless the event is being sponsored by a licensed body.

Aikido can be a very effective and teaches ways to respond to attacks. That's what self-defence is all about. It will also teach you to keep your head clear and to stay calm under pressure - which, when it comes right down to it is probably the most useful street skill you can have. Now if you want to get into mixed martial art fights, no, Aikido won't be sufficient for you, but that doesn't have to be the point of every single martial art.

So if you could just stop watching MMA fights on your T.V. for a minute and actually get into a dojo, you might actually earn some life experience and wisdom, instead of sitting there watching people do stuff and shooting your mouth off. Just a thought.

to survive on the streets you have to forget about the risk of prison, death or killing someone no matter what your art.avoidence is the first option,if that is not possible then you do what you have to do.if you worry about going to prison it will be you they take away in a body bag.id rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.aikido is a very good style but its like any other it has its weaknesses and its strenghts.thats why it pays to cross train in as many styles as you can.i consider myself to be a competant ma but could i beat an aikido master?could he beat me?well considering where both at the same sort of level we shouldnt even think that way never lone try to find out physiclly.being true martial artists the situation wouldn't arise where we had to find out?

Hahaha yes it is a funny statement. But you'll always have those idiots. You'd be surprised at how many people I see on other message boards that think a real fight is just like the movies. There are even people so delusioned they think that if they train hard enough they'll be able to do ki blasts just like in Dragon ball Z or Street fighter.

A true master in any traditional art would easily defeat the people in MMA, but no true MA master would lower himself to prove it.
