what's the equation? for making a cubical quad antenna?

i am winding a piece of wire in to a square. using dow rods, 2 of them crossed, and binded in the center. ok i need lets say 20 inches on all 4 sides. to make 80 inches of wire, but i thought my 2 cross rods would be 20 inches but i put em together and now all 4 sides only measure bout 14 inhes, ha im no math genius, help please i need to get it right the 1s t time thanx
