Dogs bury their bones for when they are hungry. This goes way back to their wild times when food was scarce and if they were lucky enough to kill or find a kill they would bury the excess for later time when food wasn't as abundant..
Our dog still do it out of instinct.
This not for the questioner:
P.S. I have 2 -90 pound Goldens they are both inside and outside. I'll do what I want with my dogs!

In the wild dogs who had a surplus of food would bury it rather than waste it because the knew they would need it later. This instinct continues in modern dogs. www.thekennelclub.org.uk

dogs who bury bones or other food are being overfed as most household pets are. if a dog is hungry it will eat anything available. if it is sated it will hide available food to go back to when there is a shortage.

It draws back from their ancestors - when they had to scavenge for food; it is in their instinct - if they are not hungry, they would bury the source of food until they needed it. Daft eh. Hope this is helpful.

Saving them for later. We used to have a dog that would eat her fill and then bury her food. She would also bury Milkbones and chewbones.

I can't give any foolproof answer but all canines do this. What is a boxer doing in your house anyway? Large dogs belong outside.
