My boyfriend just told me that everyone in CA who has a phone (landline) is entitled to an extra $30 back this year on their taxes. He said it was something about a court settlement because people were overcharged?

Does anyone else know about this or where I could find the info on it?

It's not state, it's federal. Look at irs.gov for info http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=164032,00.html . There's a line on the 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ to claim it. It doesn't have to have been a landline - mobile phones qualify also. You have to have paid for long distance service or bundled service sometime between March 2003 and June 2006.

It's $30 for a one-person household, and can go up to $60 for returns claiming four or more exemptions.

It is a Federal Tax Credit, not a State issue
