OK, first I don't think you have the right attitude about joining... the fact that you hate the Army (even just that part) when you haven't even experienced anything doesn't bode well for a future in the military. And signing up because a recruiter keeps calling isn't a good reason either. If you want him to stop, tell him and he has to stop calling.
As far as that goes, you just have to suck it up. I was told before I joined that I would be excused from duty (HA!) during that time. If you truly feel that you cannot function then you should not join... but I don't know how you intend to ever have a career regardless... take a Midol, put one of those little heat pad things that they make now (the disposable ones that last 8 hours! they're great!), and you should be fine. Like some people said, the exercise will help as well.

I don't know if you checked into the different branches in our military. You really should. You need to think about what "job" you want to get trained on and take your ASVAB. You need to know what jobs the ASVAB qualifies you for. I went through boot camp and honestly the period was the last thing on my mind. Besides you are only there for about 2 months. We have a saying when you want to whine about things "Suck it up!". That is what will get you through boot camp. ALL branches in the military will give you college benefits. ALL recruiters will call you until you tell them a definate NO. Also, your period will e better on you if you are exercising. As i read in another entry, you can go to Sick Call and they will give you Motrin. I recommend you take pads along with you.Just don't sweat it. Make a choice and stick with it but be informed by doing your research. Also, don't be scared of boot camp, it's only a very short time of your enlistment.Good luck!
I forgot to tell you.. I joined for the college benefits at 26 years old. Been in for four years now. One year to go and I will be going to college full time.

I'm not sure what they do when you have your time of the month, I'm sure if you go to medical they can authorize you to stay SIQ, thats sick in quarters for a cpl of days. The Army or any other branch of the service is a pretty good place to get educational assitance. As you can tell from my spelling I have yet to take advantage of it lol. Check with your state, not your recruiter to see if they give tax deferments and scolarship programs. I know in Illinois its 100% tuition assitance if you have good grades in the national guard, and if you served 4 years active the state will pick up the tab for classes at state schools. You pay for housing and books witch you can cover with your GI bill. Just remember if you go reserve they can yank you out of school at any time to deploy you, and yes we are fighting a war so the reserves and the national guard are being deployed at a higher rate than in peace time.

Join If You Feel Its Right, Not Because Some Guy Keeps Calling. Your Probaly Wont Get Your Period Since You Will Be Physically Active The 9 Weeks , But I Assume They Will Understand Since You Will Be With Other Females. Good Luck, Make The Right Choice For Yourself, and God Bless!!

I've been in for a while and have yet to see a girl or a boy in serving next to me. Perhaps basic training will help you to deal with your menstrual cycle. Do you excercise on a regular basis? Studies claim that exercise helps ease the pain. You'll get enough of that in basic. If you do join and feel like you are going to die once a month you could go to sick call and they could prescribe you the mother cure of all pains....MOTRIN

My best friend was a Captain in the Army when the war broke out in Grenada. At that time women were banned from combat and forward combat areas. Yet she was on the first plane there and was the first soldier to jump out with a rifle and a parachute. And - best yet, she is one hot mama and a girly girl to boot. After that experience she told me "women do not belong in this man's Army" (she was referring to female issues and what to do in a war zone) But - she loved it and is staying on to retire. Army Women are a cut above the average girl. It is hard, terrifying at times, and fun fun fun. The camaraderie is wonderful and will always get you through those tough times. Soldiers believe in their country, their job, their President, and believe they are where they belong. If you have that inner feeling that brings tears to your eyes when you think about what happens to soldiers in combat, but still feel a pressing need to serve, then the military is for you. If you would only consider it for all that college money and do not have that tear in the eye feeling, then it is probably not for you. After 24 years at it, I feel women make some great soldiers and comrades for all of those who serve.

Something i do is stay really athletic. If you eat right and stay active it is possible to skip your period. I do it all the time for sports. When all else fails just keep on training and a tampon will help a lot. I know where you're coming from because I'm interested in joining too.

how can you hate boot camp or the army without having been there? did you get all your information from movies like "Full Metal Jacket"?
I can't answer your "time of the month" question, but the women in the army seam to be able to deal with it.

The service any branch will promise you the world to get your signature, but try and collect... Don't fall the the BS and just go to college and get an education.. You will be much farther ahead. Recruiting has gotten way out of hand and is almost criminal.

Girls in uniform kick butt (sometimes literally). It's not fun, but you get a lot out of it.
There is a HUGE difference between women who have served and women who haven't. You lose that irritating, whiny attitude and replace with authority, professionalism and strong character.
Think of the difference between Dr. Laura and Paris Hilton.
