Whether turning left or right, my car makes a groaning noise from the front. It also seems rough to turn as well. This started after driving in very horrible snowy conditions about a month ago. I figured there was just snow packed up in there causing friction, but the snow is melted now and I still have the issue. Any ideas?

Don't think it's the CV joints as I had that issue in my old Grand Prix and I know the clicking sound you all mentioned. It does usually groan at the "parking lot" turns mentioned-slow short turns.

If it is from short turns at slow speeds, say like in a parking lot. It will groan and pop while you are turning. This is from an intermediate shaft. You may only need to have it resealed. I had the same problem with my 2001 Bonneville. I got resealed and now it is quiet and drives smoothly.

It sounds as if you could have a couple of different problems. The first thing to do is get the whole front end inspected to be sure that it isn't something related to suspension or steering. It does not sound like CV joints as these usually click or cluck when turning and if you look under the car at the joints and the boots are not ripped open, they are usually okay. There is a possibility that the intermediate steering shaft is dry. This would just have to be removed and regreased to repair periodically. The other thing that is most likely is the upper strut bearings are either humped or got full of water and are frozen. They might be wrecked anyways with a bunch of water up there. This would be an expensive job, but make sure before you just start replacing things. Good luck.

You probably ripped a CV boot while driving in all that snow and ice. Once the boot is ripped open, it's easy for sand to get into it, and the abrasive sand can then damage the CV joint itself.
Because the joint is no longer turning smoothly, it will commonly make clicking or groaning noise when making a turn.
If you put the car up on a lift (or jack up the front of the car and have a look underneath), it should take less than a minute to determine if this is the problem.

Welcome to GM products..its a wheel bearing. you have to find which side the groan is coming from. Its about 300 bucks minimum in canada to get it fixed. fix it soon, it could cause some major damage plus its not safe, your wheel can seize up. dont let it go any longer, insurance doesnt cover stuff like that if you get into an accident. Go to your trusted garage and have them take the tire off and check..call around, some places will take a look for free if they think they can get your business. Good luck with that, and get that looked after soon! GM products are notorious for wheel bearings. I read the other people's advice, could be that too, but probably not since it just makes groans from left to right, and its hard to turn. Trust me, been through this a million times.

only one of two things first make sure cv joints are really ok...then check the wheel bearings most likely your problem..raise front wheels off the ground grab wheel at top and bottom and shake if the wheel moves at all bearings are shot...if not slowly rotate wheel a feel for tight spots if so they are going bad good luck

the vehicle is meant to attempt this. there's a rev limiter that keeps you from blowing the engine up. The 1100 rpms at idle is somewhat severe, inspite of the truth that, you've a small vacuum leak or the idle air administration is undesirable. That issue i could get regarded at because the idle could be about 850 rpms.

At a guess i would say your strut bearings are dry (upper) or possibly your sway bar mount bushings are dry & groaning. The mounts will not make it hard to turn though.Struts yes.Get it checked out.Good luck
