This has happened to me before from sleeping on my side, it made my upper body out of place and in sort of need of an adjustment. You can do a couple of things. Sit on a chair with a low back and then stretch backwards over the chair to try to sort of "crack" it into place. Or you can try stretching movies by using your arm on a wall then stretching the shoulder blade/chest in the opposite direction. Sometimes you hear a "pop" and it pops back into place or you keep stretching it and it'll eventually feel better. A chiropractor may not be a bad thing. I love them, went on and off since I was a kid. Other issues you can look into as well: If you think it's an actual muscle pull (which would hurt like none other) then see a doctor for an MRI or something to look at tears and while you're there make sure they rule out any heart problems. As far as creams: I would skip that b/c that just covers up the problem and too much cream (daily use) can cause death (it happened to a teenager recently). If you go the cream route, I'd say natural Arnica oil or cream is good.

ANY time you're having chest pain, particularly if it's either in the middle or off to the left, you need to see a doctor. If your pain isn't muscular or just plain shoulder pain, it very well may be cardiac-related. Pay attention to that pain.... How bad does it hurt? What brings it on? What relieves it? Does the pain radiate to any other places (down your arm, over your shoulder to your back, up into your neck or jaw)? If any of that sounds like you, and especially if you have a history of heart problems or anyone in your family does, you need to go to the hospital NOW!

I wish I had this 2 years ago when I damaged my rotator cuff while showing off. This is very detailed and really gives you the techniques you need to sort out your own shoulder issues and a lot more info such as preventing further injuries. If you have a shoulder keeping you awake at night you'll know it's no laughing matter.
