Before I was a christian I had no concept of sin. You could talk about it but really knowing what sin is I think is what defines a person as a christian. People can do things wrong but not think it is sin, because to understand sin you have to realize you are a sinner. As a christian you see the guidelines clearly drawn and then receive conviction over doing sin. A nonbeliever can experience guilt over wrong decisions but not conviction over sin.

The Heavens declare the Glory of God. I didn't understand sin before I was a Christian but I knew I was a sinner.
Before I became a Christian I thought sin was stuff like adultery murder or stealing. The word "Sin" is translated from the Greek word "Harmartia". The word means falling short of the mark, specifically it was an archery term used when an arrow failed to reach the target.
Sin is falling short of perfection and God's forgiveness provides forgiveness. Have you ever not studied hard enough for a test? That could be classified as sin. We are all sinners and God loves us anyhow.

Before I did not believe anything I did was a sin--wrong maybe. Now I see that sin and wrong are the same thing. And that I choose whether or not to do wrong (sin). Living right brings real happiness whereas sin is just fun for a little while.

I guess I'm more sensative to it now...It sort of evokes a response from me now, where as before: I was sort of stone cold to it ---- I didn't care.

I'm also aware of the reality that we're all sinful creatures ('born again' Christians included) ... The only difference is now I know I can have victory over it, if I choose to lean on Jesus.

Sin is something we have to deal with; not something that can be swept under the rug...

Thanks for asking such an awesome question.

Before I truly believed in God, I did what I thought was right mostly just to avoid punishment from authority figures (parents, teachers, etc.).

Now I take responsibility for my own actions and do what is right not for the reason above, but because it should be done, regardless of the circumstances and consequences involved.

sin was very 'easy' before.... because my feeling was that if it didnt hurt anyone else, it was ok....

now I see it for what it is... it seperates me from God... it doesnt matter what it is or how 'big or small' but when it is there.... the Spirit in me grieves.... and the sorrow that i feel is something i cannot even express. I am a Christian... and some days I fail.. but with God's help, and his unending mercy... i can go on and find that joy once again

We only have a problem with born again children of Jehovah by his first begotten Jesus Christ who commit sins. This is a problem people who have not been baptized in his name can't help doing what they do, For they were born sinners. But the body, we have been killed, buried in Christ by baptism. Persecute the Church not the ungodly! Judgement starts first in the house of GOD! Workout your own salvation....

I consider myself to be quite Spiritual.

I think...

SIN is an acronym for Self Inflicted Nonsense.

And all the stuff I learned as a child about mortal sins and veniel sins - is just really silly - as if somebody's keeping score. Please. There is no score keeper - and there is no hell where the "sinners" go. But you CAN create your own hell right here if you want!

Before I was a Christian, I knew what was wrong, but I compared myself to others. "Well I'm not as had as.... ". And, well everyone else is doing it, so it must be ok". But I now must compare myself to Jesus. So, sin is sin.
