Does anyone know what the laws are for carrying/owning swords in pembroke pines FL because I'm a martial artist and sometimes I can't get a ride home so I have to walk and pretty much have to hide my sword because I'm not sure if its illegal to have one or carry it on the street or if there is some sort of permit I need or something. Also if somebody could give me a link to a website that could answer the question it would be appriciated. A couple of my friends say that the cops would take it away but I really dont like to go with heresay

It would not be considered legal because it is a lethal weapon and you do not have a permit for it.
Here is the non emergency number to the Pembroke Pines, Police station and they can provide you the information necessary with regards to a permit whoever, they probably do not have one the specifically deals with a sword.

Edit: I just spoke with someone at the non emergency number and she indicated that you do not need a permit as long as you keep your sword sheathed. In the event that you do not have a sheath you need to contact them and apply for a permit.

Check your weapon at the police department. They'll let you know.

(Why in the world would you wear a sword in public? Not even SFCA's do that!)

Edit: There's a way of wrapping a band around the blade at the hilt. I forget what it's called, but at Sci-Fi conventions it's considered "etiquette" to have one on your weapon at all times. The band makes it difficult to draw the sword out.

I'm not far from you & yes, it could be a lethal weapon. You would probabaly need something like a consealed weapon permit. I'm not sure. Ask law enforcement what kind of permit you need (assuming you're not a felon).

Carry it in a case so that you can't clearly see what it is, or easily get it out/unsheath it.
