play the course... in essence if you play the course you will not be embarassed because the course is not feeling and will only give you a pounding without mercy or pity... even during match play you should play the course... that's how bobby jones went about it... play against par... and be just as merciless and unfeeling as the course and you will not come across as those negative things...

What you need to do is just not worry about anyone else while your playing. Thinking about what others think of your game will never help you become a better player. Try playing some rounds early in the morning by yourself, and when there are very few others on the course. This will help to get you used to having no one around you, and being totally focused. Then, when you play with and in front of others, you can feel like you are out there by yourself, just you and the course. Just like it was meant to be.

You have hit the nail on the head. You need an almost arrogant confidence in yourself and your game. If you find the answer, let me know! But seriously, you need to continually tell yourself you are good -- expect to make the shot. I try to pretend that I am in the US Open, that I belong there and that I am as good as any of the top players. You have to convince yourself of that. No doubts. I even try to imagine the crowds watching me play. When you hit a good shot, you shouldn't be amazed by it; you should expect it. It is so difficult to convince yourself that you are the type of player who can make those shots. In other words, you have to change your self image.

Another option, if you're into it, is to see a sports hypnotist and/or sports psychologist.

You should have a confident attitude and not a self defeatist one.
For instance, at the first hole you should not be thinking about potential embarrassment in front of all the people waiting, you should be thinking this is your chance to show all these mofos how golf is played.

I think what counts the most is to be focused at all time and also say "yes I can do it".

Thanx!

...Im no expert...but the less I think about it, the better I do...think too much and you will be uptight...just relax...focus on your goal...but dont let your mind and body get aaarrgggh about it..if you know what I mean...
