I just got over a long 10-day illness of severe tonsillitis with probable strep, with fever, fatigue, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhea. I received vicodin for pain and solu-medrol, a steroid, because of the enormous swelling of my tonsills. Now, I seem to have a depression I just cannot shake. I take antidepressants and felt fine before this illness, but now a depression seems to have taken hold of me. Anyone have any advice on this?

IT WAS THE STEROIDS!!! The steroids (the solu-medrol) have whacked out your brain chemistry. Depression and anxiety are VERY COMMON side effects of steroids. The fact that you are already taking antidepressants makes you more susceptible to the depression side effects of the steroids. Talk to your doctor about this. If he/she is not sure what to do, then you need to consult a psychiatrist who will be familiar with steroid onset depression and how to get you back to normal.
GOOD LUCK!!!

You may want to see the doctor to rule out that your thyroid is not the problem with having had the strep throat. Better safe then sorry.
Also, try to find things to do that you like to do while you are recuperating. Your body has been through the gimlet though and that is enough to make a person down. I would ask the doctor.

Be sure to get back to doing things slowly and rest if you need it. Maybe getting out in the fresh air and sunshine is just what you need after being cooped up in the house for so long. Make plans with friends and family to help boost your mood, go see a movie...preferable a comedy. Take it slow and you will feel like yourself in no time. Get well quick!

The medicine you were taking for the tonsillitis may have reduced the effectiveness of your anti depressants, go and see your doctor.

Talk to your doctor.
It could be that your antidepressant was surpressed by the other meds you are taking. Give it a few weeks and if you aren't better see a doctor.
