I have been experiencing broken capillaries and then bruising on the palms of my hands any ideas what this is?

First I notice a pain then slight welling and the area where the capillary broke is warm and then the bruise appears and the area is tender.

Broken capillaries can be caused by high blood pressure or stress, among other conditions. Gary Sheffield (formerly of the New York Yankees, now on the Detroit Tigers) has a tendency to break the capillaries on the back of his hands because he grips the bat so tight when he swings.
