i am going to montreal i was wondering if they take american currency?

Yes Canada accepts US Currency !

Better off to exchange at airport/go to any bank while
in Montreal...you will get the rate exchange for that day

Stores/bars etc. will take it but probably just give you
dollar for dollar

Most places do in Montreal, but your best bet would be to go to a foreign exchange place and exchange your currency there. That way your not overcharged. If at all possible, try to get Canadian currency at your bank before you leave. Saves you more money that way too. Enjoy your trip.

Most places in Montreal accept US dollars, but you'll get a bad rate. Also, there are some denominations they don't want if they are too low (1's) or subject to counterfeit (10's). You are better off using your ATM card.

Most places do, but it's better to exchange. Now that the CAD and USD are much closer, a lot of places won't give you any exchange rate. They'll just take it 1:1.

Exchange your money into Canadian currency before you go.Why would you complicate your staying.It's a pain in the neck, really.Especially in Montreal.
