What is the difference between a "wolf" and a "wolfdog"? Is a wolfdog just a domesticated wolf? or has the wolf been bread with another breed?

What is usually called a wolf is the Grey Wolf--Canis lupus (there are also several other species of wolves like the red wolf and the Ethiopian wolf which do not relate to your query). Dogs are a subspecies of the Grey wolf-Canis lupus familiaris. What is referred to as a "wolfdog" is a dog that is not 100% Canis lupus familiaris...a percentage of its DNA is Canis lupus.

A wolf is a true wolf, and can be considered purebred wolf. Some people and zoos keep wolves, they are still considered wolves as long as they are purebred, so it doesn't necesarily mean wild.
A wolfdog is a pup that has been born from one parent being a wolf and the other a dog, and they are suppossed to be more tame than a wolf, but that is not always the case. Some still have the wild instinct. Some wolfdogs are bred to other wolfdogs, also considered wolfdogs.... or wolfdog bred to dog, also a wolfdog.... I think is the 5th generation of being bred to dogs that is not considered wolfdog anymore and just a dog, and that also depends in the state.
Breeds used more commonly to hybridize are huskies and GSDs bc they already look like wolves, but I've also seen chows, samoyeds, pitbulls, and rotts. Just about any breed is used.

Wolfdog usually refers to a wolf hybrid. Generally one parent is full wolf (usually the dam) and the other is husky, malamute, or GSD (I've also seen mastiffs or rotties used for sheer bulk). Many breeders use hybrids to produce more hybrids, breeding 1/2 wolf to full wolf, 3/4 wolf to full wolf etc..producing a much purer hybrid.

Both are canines so I would assume that a "wolf-dog" is part wolf and part domesticated dog. They are considered a hybrid. I once had a neighbor who had a German Shepard that was part wolf.
