You are depressed because you can not do the things that you enjoy doing...that is getting out and socializing with your friends.I don't know in how much pain you are in,but pain does contribute to your depression.Just remember that this is only a temporary set back .as soon as your leg is healed you will be back on the social scene. again. Some things that you can do while you are convalessing, putting to gether puzzles, crossword puzzles, listening to music, read a good mystery or action novel .Why dont' you start a journal about the way you feel ,and how this dissability is affecting you.(keeping in mind that is temporary, not apermanent dissability)This will certainly make you realize how fortunate you are .So, hang in there , it is only for a few more weeks .Good Luck!

Oh, does this bring back memories? I broke my leg on April 3, 1988, Easter Sunday, riding too fast on a UNICYCLE. It put me in the hospital for a week, had a steel plate and 5 big screws. The fun part was trying to get through airport security with all that metal. I started reading novels then, and haven't stopped. Try that. If you like true crime novels, read Ann Rules books, she has written about some very high profile cases like "The stranger beside me", the story of Ted Bundy. Also wrote about the Green river killer, Gary Ridgeway. And several more. She will definitely keep you interested. There have been a few of her books that when I came to the end, I would start all over again from page 1, That's how good they are. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best of luck.

How about doing some art? Even if you have no supplies you can pick up a pencil and paper and just play. People who say they can't draw can learn. If you get any pleasure and find that you are bursting with ideas, perhaps a friend can go to the library and get something like "Drawing on the right side of the brain". Do it step by step and you will see how easy it is.
While your friend is at the library ask for some books to read. There is nothing like a good mystery to put in time.

If you're school-aged, do some studying. Even if you're a PhD in something, you can always learn something new.
TV has college courses
TV has a cooking channel
TV has The History Channel
Watch some movies, if you've seen them all, then turn on TCM or AMC and watch some old movies.
Sometimes there are art shows on PBS - do some painting or drawing.
Write a story of your own - or at least keep a diary/journal.
There is always something to do--even if you can't walk or go out.

There's a lot of stuff you can do! If I broke my leg, I'd be catching up with all the episodes of all the anime series my friends want me to watch. (Shakugan no Shana is particularly good, as is DN Angel) You could also study, and there are some outdoor activities that don't require too much legwork. For example, archery. Besides, your leg won't be broken forever!

First of all understand that alot of people get depressed when they are layed up in bed. I think having friends or even family come over and spend time with you could help your feeling lame. Also don't try to think of it as a bad thing think of it as a break, where you can just sit back and relax and try to feel better about yourself.
I wish you all the best and a timely recovery.

Make sure you eat a well balanced diet and try to get natural sunlight. Getting outdoors and breathing fresh air and feeling the sun should help. If this doesn't help, you may need to consult your doctor.
Good Luck and Happy Healing.

get off your pitty pot and do something about it... think about all the people that don't have legs... or think about our troops over in iraq that are getting their limbs blown off as we speak... that should help...
