What important documents should I carry with me in moving overseas?

Documents like birth certificate , social security card, and what other items (documents) that would be beneficial to me finding a possible job and establishing myself overseas?

I moved overseas 5+ years ago. From my experience here is what you should bring:
*Social Security card
*Passport
*2 Certified copies of your birth certificate
*All medical records (doctors, dentist, hospital)
*Certified copy of your marriage (and) divorce
*A few copies of your resume
*A letter of recommendation from your previous employer
*Copies of the last years worth of bank statements, mortgage payments, car payments, insurance payments
*Any legal documents you have (such as a will, a power of attorney, etc)
*Last 7 (or however many you have) years worth of tax returns
*School records
*Drivers license and driving record for the past 5 years

These items will help you in getting a job, establishing a history to secure a loan on a house and/or car, and help your future doctors.

Consider a will in case something happens to you. Passport should be your most important thing if your an American. Any documents proving any types of degrees or certifications.

Certified Birth certificates are easy to get. Take a copy with you.

Passport, visa, health records, including vaccinations, driver's license, and a copy of your driving record from the motor vehicle bureau, certified copies of any school transcripts and professional licenses.
