You can't extrapolate this isolated incident to the entire New York population. Interestingly, a study was done recently showing New Yorkers to be among the most courteous of people among the large cities of the world. Even though I believe the study must have been flawed in some way to reach such a conclusion, there must be a shred of truth in the results.

That's not the way to gather facts. Did you reserch the crime stats for every other American city to see if any other similar crime happened elsewhere? No, but you decided that such an incident is unique to a place like New York...
There are bad acts committed absolutely everywhere.

Ugly, disturbing things happen everywhere, not just NY. In Mexico a bunch of army men gang raped an 82 year old woman who died later, of course no one is responsible. In Monterrey Mexico we have had to put up with executions among drug dealers and police officers in public places at all times of the day, all over the city, we have drug dealers living like respectable citizens among us, pushing dope like crazy, we have police officers protecting them, we have police officers robbing convenience stores and banks. Nice huh.
In Asia parents sell girls to the prostitution business, in Africa girls are raped to see if they will cure a guy of AIDS, get serious, this happens everywhere. Where are you from UTOPIA or do things like these never happen where you live?

NY has the lowest crime levels of any major city in the US. Yes that is unfortunate, but we can look at any other city in the US to see comparable or worse crimes.
