First of all, there are a few questions that you should probably be asking yourself. Puppies take alot of time and effort, not to mention money (vet visits) and loving. You should ask yourself if you are as dedicated as it takes to let that puppy out every 30-45 minutes, play with it whenever it is lonsome (which will be most of the time, since it is not used to being away from its littermates), feed it the proper diet on a proper schedule, and never lose your love or patience with its behaviour. After all, it is only doing what instincts have programmed it to do for thousands of years. The only way to reprogram it is to keep trying and stay at the training thing until they get it right. Then a lot of praise is what will finally give them the right idea and help them associate the task you have taught them with a good feeling. Perhaps your mother realizes how much effort it takes and doesn't want to be stuck with all the tough work when the "new" wears off of your puppy. Raising pets properly is a lifetime commitment (the pet's lifetime, at least). Maybe you should search yourself to find the answer to this question------Am I ready for that?

Tell her you will pay for the food, clean up ALL the accidents it makes in the house when it is being trained (which could take a while), you will walk it, play with it, put your friends on the side to care for it and be home to give it attention instead of going to the movies. You will pay for the training crate, toys, bones, vet care including all the puppy shots necessary, groomer, etc. Then tell her how you will go outside in the yard and clean up the poop twice each day (if you have a fenced backyard) - oh, and how you plan to bring the dog with you when it's time for you to move out.
How can she argue with all of that? p.s. are you SURE? It is like having a child to adopt a puppy, friends come 2nd, the pup comes 1st. You can't just bring it back when you get bored with it.

Why not say 'Hey, mom, you know I love puppies. Wouldn't it be cool if I got one for my birthday? That would be the best present ever.' Or something like that. She'll get the point. If she doesn't care, there is a good reason she doesn't want you to have a dog/puppy. Also, you can tell her you will take care of the puppy yourself and you will pay for it. I'm sure she'll understand. There not too expensive.

You already have a dog, perhaps your mom knows that it wouldn't be a good idea to bring a puppy into the house. Does the other dog get along with other dogs ? Do you help w/ or care for your current dog?

Good Luck.

To show your mom how serious you really are spend some time on the computer researching the different breeds and what their *traits* are..

Show her that you are a conscientious shopper and trying to do what is best for YOU, and Your FAMILY as well as the PUP.

She may see some maturity and then allow you to have one...

This sure will beat the pestering and bugging and begging some kids do. hahahhaha
