I'm prone to them in winter and started taking a herbal preventative called L-Lysine. If i get one now, it disappears within 24 hours.
The best things I tried before i found this was a lump of vaseline/burts beeswax on it at night time, or coffee granules crushed and put on it (it's supposed to draw the fluid out)
Good luck, I know how annoying they can be ;-)

In the USA you can get Abreva over the counter without a prescription.

Since you have gotten three in separate occasions in the past month I would talk to your doctor because that is a lot. There is an oral medication (valacyclovir) which you take for one day and gets rid of cold sores fast. There are also several prescription creams and some other oral medications.

Take L-lysine (nutritional supplement found in many stores). If you cannot control your cold sores with L-lysine, then talk to your doctor about getting an acyclovir prescription.

Good Luck!!!

Theree are ointments on the market available w/o prescriptions in any drugstore . they are not fun, I have one now on upper and one on lower lip and didn't have anything on hand as it has beena while so left them alone and they are about gone now but I plan to get something for next time.Believe it or not, if you live into older age, they pretty much quit though who wants to wait that long!
