I have noticed alot of Ministers, especially here in Texas driving pretty nice cars, BMW's And Mercedes. I was just wondering why bother paying a minster or a pastor anyways. I mean shouldn't God just take care of him? Do you think a Pastor or Minister would be so motivated to spread gods word if he didn't get paid?

I want you all to know I don't think they are all rich...but from my experience down in Texas I am shocked at the cars and the clothes that most of the pastors I know have. not all of course are like this.

Most ministers make a middle class living, certainly there are things they can do that they would make alot more at. Alot of the pastors cars and such are owned by the Churches and are given to use. Most ministers in denominations make modest salaries in the the mid 30's or so and receive housing and utilities subsidies that bring there over all compensation to about 50 thousand a year. Again not rich, but really poor either.

My pastor has a salary of $30K.
He has a 4 year old Buick and a 15 year old Chevy.
The work of a pastor is to feed his flock. And a healthy flock leads others to Christ.
Sheep beget sheep.

As for pastors/ministers getting a salary, God's Word provides that they should be paid.
"Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the corn."
and many more.

I do not know how much they get paid, but wow what a job hu?

The church I grew up in the preacher drove new cars, his wife had a new car too. New clothing for the whole family. Lived in the nice part of town in a nice house. Nice things all over.
Nothing like how we lived having a father who worked for the railroad.

I guess being a religious leader is a money making job.

In my Catholic parish, the pastor, two associates and pastoral minister make a combined $40,000.00! The clergy do not take a vow of poverty but the salries are really low. They do it because they positivelt LOVE what they do. And with the vow of celibacy, there aren't any wives or kids to support! No braces, colleges or other stuff to pay for. We have a very high help rate in our parish.

My dad is a pastor and i can easily say maybe 40,000-50,000. Which is not enough for a family of four with dogs. we have a mini-van not a mercedes. My dad would spread God's word without being paid yes. And he does and i do to without the payment.

My pastor rely's solely on faith for his teachings, literature, website access, church building and states as it says in the bible that the Lord loves a cheerful giver who gives from the heart. He believes that tything is an old testemant commandment and that we should give, but it is up to each believer to give as he or she desires.

In which case he has stated that if tything was the only way he'd not have such a successful Ministry.... so I believe in this. There are many believers who cannot afford to give as much as others... they can receive free biblical material in the mail and free CD's and can get his teachings free on the internet.
It's all free. www.gbible.org

Most ministers I know (church ministers I mean) drive elderly toyotas. (Tercel, etc.) and Hondas.
If they have a number of kids, by law they have to have something larger (caravan, voyager)
I have never met a minister who drove a BMW or anything like that.
I have heard of some of those "prosperity gospel" preachers (fraudulent) who have that kind of a lifestyle, but that is really not the norm.

I am a pastor, so - I'll answer.

I make the same as our organist. If she gets a raise - so do I. It's about $500.00 per month, total, with weddings and funerals.

I drive a 12-year old car and my front bumper is being held on with duct-tape. My stipend barely keeps my gas tank filled as I do hospital and hospice and grief counseling work.

For the first eleven years, I made even less - about $375.00 per month.

I would do it for free - but I am trying to teach the people that God gave me to teach that a workman is worthy of his wages.

Oh...they also pay for my travel expenses and retreats. that is a real joy!

It would not be following the mandates of God to not pay a minister. A minister should be paid. The majority of ministers can barely make it from week to week.

God does take care of them. He gives YOU money to give to him. "The worker is worth his wage" Scripture says. Why is it that people do not want their pastors to live comfortably. They look back at the early Christian days and see that the priests and ministers and Apostles lived very poorly and they want to replicate that except for one thing. The Church members lived poorly too and they do not want to replicate that. Everybody needs to be poor but, me huh?
