Passing gear, or kick-down faulty.

Either at the throttle linkage, or throttle position sensor.

My guess is you have an electrical transmission? Meaning all functions are done electronically except direction change (putting it into park etc?)

Check all electrical connections, check the transmission range sensor espcially (it goes on the transmission under the lever for direction selection) as if the info from it is wrong, the transmission won't shift out of 2nd gear...

Make sure the indicator on the dash or floor is not broken and you are accidently putting it into 2nd as it's showing you are in D when you are actually in 2nd.

After that I would check electrical issues including the PCM.. ususally the O/D light will flash meanign a code is stored in the PCM and needs a transmission tech to properly diagnose.

But having the year model and engine/transmission would help a lot more.'

Could easily be the shifter linkage.

And you installed it the same way that it was before, broken.
