Sorry Nomadd, but sensors at ground level do nothing to prevent you from closing the garage door on your trunk or bumper unless your car is far enough out for the tires to block the beam. Also, the overpressure sensor may not kick in quickly enough to prevent injury, but it will usually prevent death.

Note that the sensors are required by law, but if you don't have kids, no one is likely to complain or even notice.

And to think, most of the safety features are required because of Indiana Jones. :->

The sensors keep you from closing the door on your trunk. The thing that keeps kids from getting caught is an auto reverse pressure activated feature that opens the door if it closes on an obstruction. Adjusting that is just part of the basic setup of your door or it would never shut right.

Well technically its against the law to not have those photo-eyes installed, but I have seen people in your same situation that actually mount the eyes on top of the opener itself facing eachother that way they aren't in the way.

I can disable them right at the opener itself and no you don't have to have them. But they are nice if you have little kids around.

In your owners manual, it might tell you how to do that. There may also be a service number in the manual and maybe u can contact them to find out how.
