Acid reflux. Stomach acid backing up into the esophagus. If by nighttime, you mean when you are in bed, acid reflux is facilitated by the horizontal position of the body and, when lying on the left side, by pressure on the stomach itself.
While you are taking steps to resolve this, try to sleep on your right side as often as possible and elevate your head with an extra pillow to allow gravity to help the stomach retain contents. Wait at least one hour after eating before going to bed.
If this condition persists, worsens or if you require frequent antacids, you need to see your doctor.

Eating right before bed, you should wait 30-45mins after eating before you lay down. You could have G.E.R.D (gastric esophageal reflux disease) Try taking an anti acid medicine before you eat , and drink a glass of milk after. That may help. If all fails and your still having these symptoms go to your physician.. Good Luck

well, at night when you are laying in bed the acid from your stomache creeps up because you are laying down flat, try elevating the head of your bed and see if that reduces the nighttime heartburn.
