Sports that are considered masculine involves a lot of contact and physical stress, such as football, hockey, rugby. All you need to hit in volleyball is...the volleyball.

It's probably considered more of a girl's sport because it's not as aggressive as other men's sports. Personally, I think guy's volleyball is cooler to watch because they slam down each others throats sooo fast while women aren't quite as aggressive but more people come to watch women because of how they look a lot of the time. Not only do you get competitive volleyball but then half naked women too? More guys will come to watch that even if the guys team is better. Women's volleyball seems to be televised more than men's too which may be a reason it's considered a feminine sport because that's usually the only ones you see playing it on TV so you get conditioned to it being a woman's sport.

Well more people probably come to watch the girl's team because it puts them on display. Who wouldn't love 12 girls in spandex jumping around and diving everywhere.

Guy's volleyball shouldn't be considered feminine just because there isn't any contact. There is a lot more power then people think in volleyball. We have to use the ball to break noses instead of solid bone.

To attract a crowd you should study new plays. Last season we had most of the football and hockey team in watching us before their practices to see some of the stuff we ran.

Probably because in the USA it is mostly thought of as a women's sport (yes those shorts due come too mind) especially at the NCAA college level. Not many Men's team left and this probably goes all the way down to the HS level. Football, baseball, and basketball are thought of as traditional men sports. Even lacrosse is growing in popularity.

ESPN/2 show the women's NCAA championships as well as all the regional cable sports networks (FSN/CSS) show regular season games. In many regions of the country such as the SEC no Men's team therefore no exposure.

Also since their is no pro-league many people will not understand how physical this game is played overseas where it's not thought of just a women's game. Ever seen the Italian men or Russians? Brazilians are really good also.

This belief comes from High School sports...volleyball is usually played at the same time as football. Women play volleyball, guys play football. Many HS's don't allow men to play volleyball, or women to play football.

As you get older, you'll see this belief go away. Many people who still consider it a feminine sport have either never played, or never watched a professional match. I've seen fingers broken, noses broken, black eyes, hyper extended knees, twisted ankles...non contact sport? Maybe you don't hit other people with your own body, but that ball can hit speeds in excess of 80 mph.

I invite any guy who considers themselves "too manly" to play volleyball to step out on the court across from me.

I never considered volleyball girly! Its a competitive sport, have you seen those awesome beach players and male professional teams. Once you see a game believe me you'll think twice before saying it's girly:). And believe me this is coming from a woman who's played the game for 10 years.

You can't deny the sex appeal aspect. I work for my college's volleyball team and I know that quite a large percentage of our audience is made up of horny football players and, well, other horny twenty-somethings. Yeah, there are some that come for the merit of the sport, but really the majority of those are the players' families and boyfriends, who could easily fall into that earlier category.

i dont think that its a feminine sport but at my school guys arent a load to play on the team but they can practice with us there are guys that are better with an all guys team compared to an all gurls team. id love to watch a guys volleyball team but all the guys would be to embarrassed mabey they just dont think your capable of playing such a fun sport for high school or college they could just think that it should be left for the pros

I dont really know. it isn't really but it is considered. I think its because like there isn't really any physical conatct. But like football is considered a guys sport but some girls still play it, volleyball is considered a girl sport but some guys still play it.
