We see the odd one every year but they never seem to get any where. My wife and I get the feeling the judges don't like this breed.

Dog Shows are a process of elimination. First you have to win within your Breed and only one dog from each breed goes through to their group final.

Any one of the dogs in the group (Rhodesian Ridgeback competes in the Hound Group) can be selected for Best in that Group. At this show with so much competition, they will all be outstanding dogs and all be worthy of this win, but it is up to the judge to decide.

The winner of each Group competes for Best in Show.

Only one dog each year will win this award.

There are over 160 different breeds represented and over 24000 dogs competing for the Best in Show title. They also come from all over the world to compete.

Crufts is the ultimate "fantasy" win for a person that shows dogs but is not an accomplishment that many dogs will achieve even the most outstanding ones - there is only one winner. There are many breeds that have never won Best in Show at Crufts.

Actually judging at any dog show is influenced by exposer. Every judge there has seen the winning dogs either in person or advertised in show dog periodicals over and over.
When you have a field of 10,000+ dogs at Crufts, and need to whittle it down to 7 dogs for the BIS ring, there simply isn't any other way of doing it. So the "known handlers" with the "known dogs" are damn tough to beat.

Since the dogs are to be judged against their own breed standards it should not matter if the judge likes the breed or not. As each dog is only judged against its own standard.
You do not see many Ridgebacks I like the breed myself and wish there were more of them and more shown.

No I don't believe one ever has. You can find out by looking at the Crufts website and searching for past winners.

(In 1990, my aunt's dog's grandfather was Crufts Supreme Champion, Olac Moon Pilot =D )
