I'm just analysing things from a Christian pow.
How exactly did God grant us free will, since in the end it all comes down to
either 1. we choose the morally right path => we go to Heaven
or 2. we choose the morally wrong path => we go to Hell?

I mean, we actually have to choose between Heaven or Hell, and what does the free will have to do with that since no sound human being would choose eternal pain? Those who get it in the end are not there because they "choose" to be there, but because they have, well, disregarded some essential information. Which again has not much to do with free choice.

so overly simplistic that it is misleading.
We make choices millions of times in a life time.
You will get judgement on those choices. Jesus said people are known by their fruits, what they do via their choices.
Do you have free will in your life to make your choices in life?
OK then just drop the heaven and hell thing already, if it's too condemning for you..

What are you saying?
That free choice could actually be getting a good thing for doing great harm?
Or, That God shouldn't allow us to have that which we choose? ...

Imagine ...
You have bought a brand new automobile, with Everything on it. You love your children, teach them to drive, warn them to follow the laws & drive safely, give them the keys ... and they proceed to take the car out in the middle of the night to play chicken & road race with their 'buddies' ...
Would you not take the keys away from them?!?
Would you actually feel that you are Obligated to allow them to continue putting themselves & others in harm's way,
as well as disrespecting your generosity & feelings entirely? Do you honestly view taking the keys away a violation of trust or your promise that they could use the car?!?

This article explains the issue of Free Will/Choice in detail.
It really doesn't mean that the giver must ensure that the recipients don't make choices that hurt anyone, or if they do, that they are miraculously protected from what they bring into being.

By free will it means that you can choose your way (choosing is not really a good term as it's more than something inside of us guiding our desires and answering them by some sense of pleasure. Going to Heaven or Hell isn't related only to morality, in fact our heaven is the fulfilling of our greatest desires and the "signature" we're leaving in this world (people we helped, people who will regret us, who are crying for us...). Hell is when we haven't anymore energy to go the good way and all our world collapses and the last thing we have in mind before leaving our existence is extremely painful as we're alone in it and we become mad (unless we were mad before). Hell is a world where the way is not shown by a Lord, it's very frightening as we need universe's order to know where our simplest thoughts have to lead us.

The free will is choosing Jesus as your Savior or not. If you choose not, it's a still a choice to go to Hell. Even if it means doing your own thing, your own way.

Man is not neutral in how he stands before God. He is guilty of sin, inherited all the way back to Adam. Given a choice, we will always choose the morally wrong path save for God's intervention. To think that we have the ability to choose him is rather arrogant, in my opinion. The choice is his, not ours.

you have a free will to love God or not. If you love Him you will choose ( freely ) to always want to do the right thing, and besides no one can be perfect , so everybody would go to hell if Jesus Christ didn't pay for you to be saved. John 3.14-21

Hell is just not a place it is separation from God and disharmony(the hell in the bible is metaphorical for the pain the soul feels when separated). So we do chose to be with God or separated from God, and if you chose to separate yourself from God then I would imagine it wouldn;t be that painful for you.

If you "hang around long" you will see many blaspheme, mock christians, curse people asking for prayer, etc.
They are choosing (freewill) the lake of fire.
If you study the word "fire" in the Greek and Hebrew it means fire (original languages).

God didn't grant free will. Eve was tricked into it and Adam didn't think for himself to not to follow what she was doing. IF Adam did his job and tell Eve to drop it, it all would have been a lot different.
