Since you want to record the sound separately from your camera - you would use another device as your sound recorder. You would then add the sound track to your video in post production (the editing phase).

Get a separate sound recorder (minidisc recorders are great) hooked up to a mic. Get two rulers, paint alternating black and white stripes on them, and preferably make a hinge on one side. Start your sound recorder and your camera, wait a couple of seconds, hold the rulers in front of the camera and clap it HARD. You can also say scene three, shot 2, action, blah blah blah, whatever. This works especially well when you are around a lot of people and they think you are a movie crew or something :-). Then later when you are editing, you can synch up the sound of the clap with the clap on the video. Hope this helps!

I particularly have the 800 and 900, and neither have a usb port. Theres no genuine aspect to at least one until eventually it takes stills with the SD card, which i wager i ignored out on. They both besides the fact which have mic-jacks next to the AV and firewire (2 diverse places on both. it will be below the viewfinder (even as closed) as mine is contained in the 900. contained in the 800, its lower than a rubber flap, to boot as each little thing else, port-smart.
