I'm a cop and I'd arrest you for offending me! I'd make up some story like you were acting suspiciously. We'd get you down to the station and quietly beat you to a bloody pulp.
I guess after that you'd be a little more cooperative. Don't you think?

well, maybe, but you do not have to consent to the police officers detention. They cannot even make you stop unless they have "reasonable suspicion" that a crime has been or is about to be committed by you. And even if they do stop you with reasonable suspicion, if you have done nothing wrong and want to leave, they must have probable cause to get a warrant to either arrest you or detain you further. In theory it is pretty straight forward, but in reality if you get stopped it is very easy for a seasoned law enforcement official to articulate reasonable suspicion to a judge, and you would probably lose that battle in court, just b/c the standar is so subjective...

Usually when someone refuses to answer a simple question posed by an officer, that would raise the suspicion level a notch or two.
Do you realize that mature adult people would have told the officer? Do you realize that when you start being a smart-a** with a police officer he or she might think you are into something illegal?
Frankly, I find people who give the police a hard time are those with the worst behavior and are hiding criminal activity.

ok here we go with the stupidity....if you arent doing anything wrong you would just tell them, you have a 5th amendment right to not tell them anything.....but all they have to do is say they were questioning you as a possible witness to a crime you wouldnt talk so you are interferring with an investigation...which makes you a criminal.....so in essence you have the right to stay quiet, but they have the right to arrest you for doing so

Not a smart thing to do, he can arrest you on some trumped up charge like failing to produce ID, being belligerent in public by causing a disturbance, etc.

Nope, doesn't bother me at all because I might change your plans and you might end up going to jail so it really doesn't matter where you were going. I usually don't ask where the person is going though. I could care less.

yeah just a little. Next time just say to the store, just out for a walk,or something else vague its not worth the hassle of dealing with the police about something so dumb. more than likely they are just checking up on someone else and you don't want any part of that.

You'd better answer. The officer might be in the area investigating a crime and looking for suspects. If you don't mind being stopped, questioned even more and possibly arrested, then keep doing it.

The cop does have the right to know. He might think that u would be going somewhere and doing something illegal, so just make up something and tell him ur going shopping, or to get gas, or going out to eat!! Or just plain tell him where ur going! :)
