Any camera with 5 megapix and above is ideal for great quality photos.
Review for the A530 is included below.
If you want to take action shots, a subsitute camera for a reasonable price would be the Canon PowerShot S3 IS.

5 megapixels is fine. As Consumer Reports had shown in their Nov'06 issue, certain cameras with 4 megapixels made excellent 8X10s when enlarged. The Canon A530 is a fine camera.

I have recommended this camera to many, including one employee and my mother-in-law. They are all still speaking to me. It is a good camera. It is being closed out now, so don't think about this decision for too long, as they will soon be gone.
There are links to reviews and so on above me, so I won't repeat them, but I don't see this one, which is a good endorsement of the A530.

The higher the megapixel the better the picture resolution when making bigger prints. If you are not intending to have any pricture enlarged to over 5x7, the 5 megapixels is ok. However, if you desire to have blowups of pictures made at least 8x10, get a 6 megapixel camers, A 5 , and a 6 megapixel camera isn't that much more in price.

It all depends on your definition of quality. As a photographer I'd never try to shoot action with a point and shoot. High burst speeds are a necessity. My 5 frams per second out of my $2000 8mp 20D (plus lens) works fine for me. There are faster cameras yet

if you want to take a good action shot, then you will have to get a SLR type of Camera (Canon or Nikon Brand) ,since you could control the shutter speed for fast moving action.
