My husband read a blog wondering why if there are no atheists in the foxholes of war no one showed up to service. I said, "They are Sunday morning atheists"

I don't know who came up with this idea but it is a flat out lie!
There are lots of Atheists in foxholes, as well as driving hummers, tanks, etc In fact I'd be willing to bet the number of Atheists vs the number of people that believe in a religion is growing.
The military is full of people with all kinds of ideas and beliefs! Clearly you are not in the military or else you would know this!

Believe it or not - this ain't the first time this myth has been trotted out.
We had someone on the forum who was a member of "Atheists In Foxholes" - a support group for Atheists in the military. They would beg to differ.

There are only atheists in foxholes. If someone is trying to kill you, you don't stop and pray....you return fire, and try to get them. There is no room for beliefs, of religion in the heat of battle. You either react, or get sent home in a box.

Gee that's interesting. Then why does the military list Atheist on their dog tags and have a symbol for Atheist on headstone for those buried with military honors?
