Krav Maga - this will always be my answer, I study karate at the moment as there is no permanent class near me have to make do with seminars. You need a black belt from another martial art to teach this subject, proving yourself or something, hope that helps

In my own opinion the most effective martial art is the one that prepares you to effectively protect yourself. It is the art that infuses you with the strength not to fight, when faced with the aggression of others. It is the art that teaches you the wisdom to identify beforehand, the places and situations to avoid.
I have never been in a street fight since learning martial arts. I avoid the situations and places where such conflicts may arise. If someone wants to be tough, I let them. They go away thinking they are bad and I go away knowing that I may have done a stranger a favor, who knows, maybe I did myself a favor. No matter how bad you think you are, there is ALWAYS someone badder.
I learned a huge lesson from the mis-fortune of a high school friend of mine many years ago. He was a bad hombre. He was a great football player. He was a dad with two little kids. One day he got into an arguement with a guy in a bar over a Rams game. The other guy went outside to leave. My friend followed him outside along with some of his buddies. The guy was standing at the rear of his car when someone threw a bottle at him. He opened his trunk and pulled out a 357 magnum and fired a warning shot into a planter. My friend thought he could circle around the cars in the parking lot and blind side the guy. He was wrong. He was dead before they got him to the ambulance. The guy that shot him got off because it was self defense.
Wrong place, wrong situation, stupid arguement, macho aggression, two children left to grow up without their father.

Depends on what you want to do with the art. Teach the art, use it for self defense, compete, or just have something you can use to become more fit and healthier.
For fitness try taebo.
If you want to teach I would suggest you learn taekwondo or karate.
For self defense go with krav maga.
If you want to do mma there are a lot of styles you can learn that will be helpful, don't limit yourself to just Jiujitsu.
Learn a variety of fighting arts: boxing, taekwondo, greco roman wrestling, etc. and earn a black belt minimum, preferably higher, in each style. That will do more for you in competition in the mma world then learning just Jiujitsu.

Gee your answer really shocked me. I can't believe you think MMA or other styles are inferior just because they're sport.
I guess I'll need to find video of a muay thai guy getting killed with a single well placed roundhouse in the head and those guys were small!
Edit: Ok here it's wait until about 2:45 and afterward:

It is a shamee that Brazillian jujitsu has ruined what jujitsu is really about. It is just like Karate, it was really affective before being commercialized. I am blackbelt in seperate style of jujitsu and i believe that it is the most effective. May be u should try a more traditional style as i have.

My opinion only matters to me, and yours to you , why do you ask this.
Every martial art works differently for everyone, some can master certain techniques of some arts better that other tequniques from other arts. Other Martial Artists are more versitile or agile than others some are more comptetive than others.
Different arts are different arts a good martial artist is a good martial artist no matter which disipline he practices.

bjj can be used to kill or maim just imagine not letting go of a rear naked choke or guillotine, and imagine ignoring a tap when applying an arm bar or kimura. just because there are rules in mma doesn't mean there are on the street i think bjj can be as brutal as any martial art if u got the balls to apply the move to the snap

I think the most important thing to learn for an mma fighter is Jiu jitsu. You will be in a big disadvantage if you do not know how to defend yourself in those complicated situations.

None. They all have something good to teach you, every martial art has flaws but by learning a few of them, those extra martial arts cover the flaws of the others.
