communicating directly with the human race at all times, does that make him a lazy god?

When is He going to "inspire" another couple dozen writers/editors for the next "edition"?

Rick, are you saying then that God DID write the Bible directly? Christians normally say the opposite.

So what kind of pen did God use?

He did once. To the Jews at Mount Sinai. However the people were so terrified by his voice they asked Moses to speak for him. Incidentally that is why God was so hard on these knuckleheads (those particular Jews) because they had seen first hand his miracles, heard his voice, and then continued to worship false gods. If he communicated with humans in our days, it would be worse. We would still worship false gods (and by false gods I include money, fame, etc) and ignore his commandments and he would be to say the least 'pissed off'. To avoid previous episodes like Sodom and Gomorrah and plagues of frogs, he has wisely let us come to him, instead of him coming to us.
Even if you don't believe the Bible is talking about facts only fiction, you have to agree that even as fiction it makes sense for the story line.

The Holy Bible--is a messages from God.--to believers and non-believers. If you believe that Good--If you don't believe that so be it. The Bibles were written with many purposes. The King James version was commissioned by king James in order for him to prove that divorce was ok. The writers could not prove his point so he began the church of England. Other interpretations were written in response to further enlightment by others. The Morman church has the Book of Morman. The Jehovah witnesses has a version of the Bible that is a responce to a theologist interpreting doctrine and then expounding his doctrine by using interpretation technigues. Because of language evolution other text have come about. Most of them have a school of theology attached. I believe non are wrong. I have my beliefs, that does not make others wrong. I believe God is furthered in his spiritual quest of people using the interpretation of your choice.
There are those who do not believe at all. They have a right to their belief.

Did God inspire a couple dozen "arbitrarily" chosen humans to compile His Word?

No.

Considering the amount of humans on this planet, it would be pretty hard to speak directly with each and every person. Think of him like a manager who delegates work to different people. It doesn't make him a lazy manager, it makes him a smart one.

The book is completed why should He inspire more authors. Besides, God talks to people all the time. Usually they're just not listening.
