I have 2 daughters 1 is 3.5 years-old and the other one is 4.5years-old. My 4.5 year-old is very hyperactive and my other daughter is always crying and winging (i wormed them) I was wondering if anyone has any arts and craft suggestions i can do with them? I have a 11week-old daughter as well so i can't always take them to the park and play as we'd have to go a fair distance. If anyone has any ideas for the home i can do with the girls i'd be much appreciated thanks.

Do you have a back yard? A patio? A friend of mine had a very active 3 year old and a newborn when she became a single mom. They had an apartment that had a small patio. She purchase a "little tykes" swing and hung it from the ceiling over the patio (from under the floor of her upstairs neighbor's balcony) She had sliders that led to the patio and right inside the door she placed the baby's bassinet. She also had the livingroom set with a little types "cube" that he could crawl in and out of, as well as the slide and a sand box out on the patio as well. She would leave the sliders open during the day, that way she was able to spend time playing with her son and tend to the baby's needs. As far as the child who cries and whines...stop enabling her. Quit paying attention to her whines. When she speaks without whining praise her for doing so...

This is my favorite website It has a TON of printable projects for almost any age group along with coloring sheets.

I know how hard it is to have kids so close in age and then 1 younger. I take care of 3 kids and have since the oldest was 2 (he is now 6) When the oldest was 3 his sister was 23 months and their baby sister was born. Getting out side everyday (as long as it's not too hot or cold out) is a must. They have so much energy. On days when we can NOT get outside I take the cushions off the couch and turn the music on and they jump from 1 to the next till I stop the music. Once the music stops they have to stop. (almost like musical chairs) They have so much fun. Fill a square bucket with water and let them play. Set up little centers around your house. A play house center, a reading center (books, pillows) Cook with them (It is easy to do) Put the baby in her swing. and make cookies (it doesn't have to be from scratch) Buy the prepackage mixes. All kids Love to cook.(at 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 they should be able to measure and pour by themselves. You will have to read the directions and point out which measuring cups to use for what. You may also have to help mix it up a bit. But thats about it. They can put them on the cookie sheet (not all of the cookies will be the same size. but who cares. It's something they did. something they had fun doing. Do quiet activities when the baby is sleeping. Play games. At this age they are learning through everything they do.

I have a feeling your older kids are acting out because of the baby. The baby needs a lot of your care and takes up a lot of time. Aim to spend at least 20 minutes a day with your older ones. When they go down for their afternoon nap put the baby down 1st then the 3 1/2 year old. keep the 4 1/2 year old up for half an hour longer. then get the 3 1/2 year old up 20 minutes to half an hour before her sister.

You can have them do rip art. It is all done with construction paper. You rip the paper and glue it into place.

You can have them glue macoroni to paper.

Use pudding as painting.

Put shaving cream on the table and let them play in it, if you are worried about them eating it, just put whipped cream instead. All these art activities are great for using energy, brain function and fine motor skills as well as some gross motor skills.

Also doing little dances with them will help expell some of that energy.

You might try getting big peices of paper and tracing their bodies and then let them put face hair and all that good stuff int there.

Good for you trying to occupy your children.

These are the most important time of a child growth. You can set your place up like your own pre-school for them. Play area, prayer time, coloring, planting, teaching them about life.
reading. Cooking little things. They are old enough to be in pre-school too. How to play with each other and love each other because everything is new for them. Go to the library for books on this too.

it is important to get outside everyday, even if it's just a walk, make puppets out of sox, paper plates are great for all different kinds of crafts, color noodles and string them, make play dough, there are lots of educational games and projects in home schooling catalogs, i am not suggesting home schooling but the catalogs are jam packed with great things to do, also clean your house with children's music kinda loud and dance around with your kids, also include them with your cleaning, make them feel you could not do it without them, children love to help and feel needed be sure to praise a lot , everything you do in a day you can make fun and include them, good luck, have fun and they will too
