Does your criminal background come up? I did read that if there is a crime committed in the US or Canada that there is a database that will pull that & that is the only way a criminal record would show. Is that true & does that hold true for other countries? ex. if someone from Europe had an unresolved misdemeanor in the US but lives back in Europe for over 5 yrs & is going to travel to Canada will this show up & stop them from entering Canada? Would this show up if they were to come back to the US?

They check name, address and other info on your picture page. They also check how many times you have travelled outside the country and whenwas the last time. They can tell if you have ever been pulled out of line for a baggage/personal search. They check for illegal activities, outstanding warrants, convictions.

I think they are starting to link the European databases but I don't know how thoroughly they have done so as yet.
