Alright I've read up about this bus I need help. I went to my girlfriends house last night drinking with her family and we woke up at 1 am to hear her sister puking... Her sis has been sick all day throwing up... Last Wednesday her brother had the same thing... I washed my hands, didn't get to close to her, sat beside her when she wasn't sick the night before but I was wondering how long will it take to get sick? Will I get sick?

Ok, first of all, are you sure the sister had flu and wasn't vomiting from drinking? Your post isn't clear enough to tell is the sister had been drinking also.

Flu has an incubation period of 1 to 4 days with 2 being the average time. If you make it to 6 days after exposure without getting ill, you are probably safe.

There is no way to predict whether or not you will get the illness as it depends on length of exposure, Sorry, in this case, hand washing alone does not protect you. Flu is an airborne illness via respiratory droplet exposure meaning all you have to do is breathe in the same room the sick person is in...especially if she coughed or sneezed. The germs would have already been in her system before she even got sick (remember the incubation period?).

Another thing to keep in mind is that you can get it from anyone out in public! So many people go shopping, to school or to work while sick and spread their illness to all the unsuspecting people who interact with them. We are all very fortunate that we don't get sick more often than we do.
