The 2 Kings 2:23-24 verse is violent, and there are other verses where people are tortured, a verse where kids are thrown at rocks, but the group of boys must not have seen the light of god. shadarack meshack and abendigo are thrown into a fire pit and god is with them there, and they were faithful believers. Elisha is the one being made fun of in this verse, an d right before it he witnessed a miracle and the water was pured, and before that Elijah was taken to heaven on a chariot of fire.

jan. I am not a Walking Bible. I am a christian and a believer of god and I want to learn more about the bible. I understand the verses and have read the context of them. Now mind you, before you make unnecessary comments towards someone.

...Could I challenge you to learn chapters?By God's grace I can memorize chapters. I memorized 1 John 1-5, Romans 1-5, Hebrews 11, 1 Corinthians 13, and Psalm 1, and lots of single verses.
...This has been an incredible help, when it comes to doctrine and apologetics.

Why do you want to do this? I can't stomach it when somebody asks a question, and the same person types the exact same Bible verse over and over, as if thats the only one they have memorized.
Its an insult to God to memorize something just in case you want to blurt it out at some point.
I study in the original texts, and I have a memory problem; I have notes stuck to everything in my home, because of it.

What I do know, is what I have studied -
The Plan of God, what happened in the last earth age, why we are here, what is to happen next, where we go after this, who goes and who doesn't and why, etc etc.

If someone wants an exact verse, I would look it up for them. You don't need to be a walking Bible to be a Christian; while you are trying to memorize little verses, think of what you are missing as far as the overall Plan of God? Stop doing that, and start
UNDERSTANDING what you are reading.
That will go a whole lot further than simple memory of lines, out of context, mind you.

2. Peter1:3-8 is a good passage to focus on in your Christian life. 1. Peter 1:3-9 is another good section to memorize and think about.
I'd suggest, read your New Testament every day and as a special verse strikes you as important, write down the reference and you might want to memorize that as well in the days ahead.
Also Romans 8:28 is a classic to memorize.

God bless you as you walk with Him day by day.

This is a great question and I am so pleased to hear you are looking for strength in your faith through the word of God. And for that you will never be put to shame (Rm 9.33). I've always enjoyed Ps 119.105, Prov 3.5-6, Isa 26.3-4, Lam 3.22-23, Ps 34.7,17,19. I believe you will see why I love them so much. Keep up your study.

Try Matthew 6:5-6.

*Edit* Why is it every time I point this passage out I get a thumbs down? Don't you folks like it when Jesus tells you to pray in private, instead of shouting on street corners like the hypocrites? Curious.
