Buy some cat repellent spray for the areas you don't want them to do anything to.

Also they tear up couches and so on because they lack scratching posts and a couch is the next best thing, so get them a scratching post.

As for your bread, put it out of reach.

Lastly get a squirt gun, put water in it, when they misbehave squirt them with water. Cats hate water and this will teach them the rules very fast. Do not ever spray cats when they are being good however, as this will confuse them as to what is ok and what is not.

Play with your cats, keep their litterbox clean, feed them, give them water. Those are all the basics to a healthy cat.

Most importantly, love your cats, they'll love you back!

PS I just read the post above, never declaw a cat, that is the worst thing you can do. It's like having someone remove your fingers. They do not claw at things out of hate, they do it because it is their nature, simply give them somewhere to claw(scratching post) and squirt them with water if they scratch the couch. Declawing is cruel and unusual punishment. Cats use their claws for moving about.

Put things out of reach.put cat repellent on the furniture. And wait for a couple months, cats generally stop this kind of thing after they grow up a little bit. if they do something bad, spray the with water. It works as a deterrent.

You could also put a purring cat into your dad's lap sometime. hard to say no to that.

And it's not that bad if they do go away, they can brighten up someone else's life. One cat is enough for most people...
