It was very rare for a Roman to be an atheist. It was fairly common with the Greeks, but almost unheard of in Rome. And you have been talking about soldiers not philosophers. That makes it even rarer.

The majority of Romans in that time were pagan, not pantheist, atheist, et al..
The majority of the Roman soldiers followed Mithraism.

I find it hard to believe that this is anything more than you playing troll today.

Edit: Actually, you know what? I can confidently say no, right now, since the roman empire has been gone for over a thousand years. But I will need to know what your reasoning is before I can tell you exactly *why* you're wrong.

Please maybe you should think for yourself if your getting this form the answers of others.
The vatican (home of the catholic church) is in Rome Italy.........most Romans are Roman Catholic..........
I am sure their are a few atheists their just as there is anywhere else.

...first, the "word" is Atheist (placing the letter "A" before the word, negates it meaning...did you know that...?) Anyone can "denounce" the belief of God... but to be an Atheist, you've got to believe that there is a non-belief... Rome or it's citizen's have nothing to do with it....
