Church = The members of the Church (past, present, & future).

A Church is not a building. However, members do gather together to worship in buildings. Historically, these buildings have several differnt rooms and functions. They teach adults, childreen, serve food, and entertain. I was in Venice and went to an Opera in a Church. This performance was not in the "Worship" area, but adjacent to the "Worship" area. One of the tour guides even said prostitues hung out in these area's however were forbided to enter the Worship area's.

In short, it is the collective group of people who go to a specific place that determines the function of the dwelling.

i think that it should be more than a safe place to be in or even to pray.
a church or even a temple is sacred to god because thats where gods people come to be with him
a thrift shop may be a great idea because it brings people together to enjoy it in a reverent way.its also great to leave out church liturature so that peope can see and ask questions about the church.
especially if people are being of service to god and volunteering to be there and run the store and tell people about the church. besides it may bring down the cost of the building if people are using the money wisely towards building repairs and church activities.

keep an open mind and a open heart and god will bless u for it.

I agree but at the same time, you can pray and worship God anywhere. Church should also be a place where people can get financial and mental help, good advice and empowerment. You may not be able to benefit from a thrift shop (I wouldn't necesarrily benefit from it, support it or advertise for it) but um, somebody else will and can.

My temple has a book store... where you can buy books to help you on your path of learning..

My temple also offers movie night, picnics, dinners, concerts... etc... to build a community.

If the thrift store is a way of raising money for the church or for the needy people of the church then I see no problem with it.

ditto to what your saying i think thats the prime reason to go to chuch but ive been taught that church is also a time to rest on sundays and worship god as a unity with other brothers and sisters through singing and prayers however sometimes i feel the need to go to church for god and not for other people but you cant exactly be a christian without equalising with others
(if tht makes sense)

A church should also be about giving back to the community, and helping the needy.
