I always try to do the right things but sometimes i just mess up and i feel really guilty....i'd pray to God and say "I'm sorry and I promise to never do it again" and then i'm good for about 2 months or so and then i'd go right back and do the same things again...it's so hard...and sometimes I feel like God is just going to punish me because i keep making these empty promises...

yes, He easily forgives....

The thing is that when we know that we are going to make a choice that is sinning against God...we turn our backs on God and take matters into our own hands...

Once we take matters into our own hands, God allows us to be in a position in which we are vulnerable to the circumstances and/or consequences of our choices...

That could be something as simple as guilt...or an actual consequence...

So, He does easily forgive, and He does not punish us....

We punish ourselves...

The Apostle Paul talks about it in Galatians...

God forgives through Christ- we all sin and fall short of the glory of God- the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Even Paul knew what he should do and did just the opposite. Even with Christ we can still sin- but He is our advocate before the Father- if we confess our sins , he is faithful and will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Remember though we are a new creature- so The Holy Spirit lives within us to help us live the life that pleases Him- we cannot do it just by trying to be better. He forgives but it was not easy- it cost Him His son's life. Praise God, because all of us would be lost if we tried to pay that price.

God always forgives because that is His nature to do so if you are sorry. Keep on the good fight.

Our sins cost Jesus His most bitter suffering and the Cross and He spent all of His blood for you. He did this for love of you.
If you meditate on the suffering of Jesus and the pain you caused Him through your sins you will sooner or later stop sinning and maybe become a great Saint.

Ya know I use to have the same problem. However I have realized that God knows me, and knows my intentions. God created forgiveness. I imagine us as children in the eyes of God, sometimes we stumble and fall, God just helps us get back up again. I don't think there is any judgement there, just love.

No human can get & keep on the right track indepentant from God. We need an ongoing, regular study of his word, to remind us of our weaknesses, & keep us focussed on him, his purpose for us, & our goal in life.

Why Study the Bible?
- The Key to A Meaningful Life
- What the Fear of God Means
- Drawing Close to God Means We Both Love & Fear Him
- Fear and Love Work Together
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2001/7/1/article_02.htm

Consider these examples of God's dealings with people recorded for our benefit, in his word:

Will God Overlook Our Weaknesses?
- Moses and David
- The Fight to Throw Off Sin
- God Expects Us to FIGHT Our Weaknesses
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/2002/11/8/article_01.htm

Then consider these modern-day examples:

Can Prisoners Be Reformed? :
- Prisons in Crisis
- Is the Solution Part of the Problem?
- Is Real Reform Possible?
- Opening a Window of Hope ...
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/2001/5/8a/article_01.htm

Now, check out God's opinion of ...

What Is Your Life Worth? ...
How Precious Is Your Life?
- “Not One of Them Is Missing”
- “The Very Hairs of Your Head Are All Numbered”
- “The Product of Intelligent Activity”
- “He Will Deliver the Poor One Crying for Help” http://www.watchtower.org/e/20050201/article_01.htm

Next, consider what God's purposeful plan is for those loyal to him:

In the new world of God's 'making', humankind will at long last experience that freedom foretold at Romans 8:21, 22:

"The creation itself also will be set free from enslavement to corruption and have the glorious freedom of the children of God. For we know that all creation keeps on groaning together and being in pain together until now."

People then will finally see complete fulfillment of Jesus' model prayer:

"Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth." (Matthew 6:10)

Conditions on the Paradise earth will then reflect the conditions in heaven, Perfect Peace & Security.

The Marvelous New World of God's Making
- Righteousness Replaces Wickedness
- Perfect health Restored
- The Dead Return
- A Truly Peaceful World
- Earth Transformed Into a Paradise
- Undoing the Past http://www.watchtower.org/library/dg/index.htm?article=article_10.htm

You are punishing yourself. Reward yourself with a regular study of the Bible, learn to appreciate the many lessons it contains, and you will see a marked improvement. Always pray for God's direction & guidance during study, as there are many false, & potentially confusing teachings out there. Ask him to reveal his true meaning to you. He does that for those pure in heart (you can ask him to help you develop & maintain that, too:). He also provides the strength we need to endure & remain faithful ... no one can to do that on their own!

So ... Quit beating yourself up,
& Beef yourself up, instead ... spiritually! (;

God told us to forgive countless times- to forgive others.
He's the definition of forgiveness.
Your Father doesn't lose interest because you're not perfect. It's the attempt.
Guilt is useless. If God already forgot what you did 2 months ago, He won't recall why your're apologizing "again". To Him, it's the 1st time.
All we can do is the best we can do.
Talk to God more and you'll find yourself making better choices with no extra effort.
Be gentle with yourself.
God's love is UNCONDITIONAL.
Be blessed. Love you.

I had a very wise woman tell me once that it is not God that denies forgiveness - it is that we deny it to ourselves. Life is a series of experiences that we hopefully can learn from. If you are failing to learn the lessons presented to you, than you are going to repeat the same mistakes until you consciously make the choice not to repeat them. Time to evaluate what it is that is truly important to yourself and then start keeping your promises - not just to God but to yourself.
Namaste

Matthew 6:12 - And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Luke 11:4 - And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

He easily forgives. Jesus takes us just as we are and gives us the Holy Spirit to help guide us. Whatever the Holy Spirit starts in you in His purifying and refining process He is more than able to finish it. Trust Him and He'll help you get through these temptations.

the easiest thing in the world is to get forgiveness from God for doing something wrong, the bible says if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all us from all unrighteousness.
righteousness simply means to be in right standing with God.
