Hello all Husky owners,

I have heard that the Husky breed is NEVER good off leash. They just take off and run away, even if they have a decent recall.

I wanted to know how many of you people that own a Husky and live in a city has a Husky that IS good off leash, like at dog parks, in your own front yard etc.

Thanks a bunch! =D

That is what I've heard as well Molly, thanks ^_^

I have heard that Huskies have a mind of their own so to speak, they do what ever they want, when ever they want.

I have a Shepherd/Husky mix, and I wanted to know if it would ever be safe to take her off leash. She acts more like Husky then Shepherd, her body structure is more Husky then Shepherd, her color is more Shepherd then Husky. So I think her Husky side out weights the Shepherd side lol

I have had my Husky/Shepherd mix for 6 months, she's a female and about 2 to 3 years old, got her from a dog rescue where I live.

They are like giant cats. That is the main thing to remember. They hold grudges. So they come if they feel like coming. Born to run. So if you try and catch/chase them, they just keep running. Some don't like men, and treat men and women differently.

PS Mine was border collie / husky mix. Work on indoor games to tire his/her mind - like where's you bunny, or fetch

My husky will run away if given the chance. He is an escape artist so when we put him out back we have to be careful. I have only seen two huskies in my life that did not run away when off the leash and they belonged to the breeder I got Havok from. If you find someone who can tell you how to train them not to run then good luck. Otherwise if you decide to get one make sure you have them all the leash at all times and that you have a fenced in yard he/she can run in.

I used to work for a vet clinic and I volunteer at the SPCA and let me tell you, Huskies are hit by more cars and/or wind up in shelters as strays more often than almost any other dog.
Except Boarder Collies. Lots of BC's get out of their yards because they need so much exersize and are super smart.
And Pitt Bull lookalikes. But that's only because they are so over bred, there are too many of them.

I had one years ago. He was neutered and he was an escape artist.
He went over the fence he dug under the fence he actually pulled apart some of the fence to get through it.
He loved to run loose. He would always come home but would always take off.
He spent his whole life doing it.
We tried everything. The only way we could get him to stay home was to chain him up and then sometimes he would slip the collar and run.

My puppies daddy is a Siberian Huskey, and he always jumps the fence and wonders around. Thank the lord they don't live in the city because someone will take him, cause he is so beautiful. It is better if you walk him yourself.
