i have two girls one five and one 8 months both sleep straight through and both started when they where 4weeks.my oldest goes to bed school nights at 7 and late on weekends bout 10.my youngest goes bed at 7 every night (even if we are at a party) all i did was a psychology trick i picked up studying which is when it comes to night feeds keep it dark and quiet, change them feed them put them back down dont give them social contact then during the day do the opposite lots of noise talk to them while you feed them make eye contact etc.this helps them to distinguish the difference between day and night.set a strict bed time routine like bath feed bed.start from what time you do now the make it ten minutes early every night it will take time but if you do it gradually then you can get them to sleep at a time you want if you suddenly change there bed time baby wont sleep but just cry as they wont be use that time .hope this helpful.xx

Try to keep the baby awake during the late afternoon and try to stop feeding at nights. You won't get a baby that age to go to bed at 7 and sleep through so if you want a good nights sleep, you will have to keep baby awake until about 9 or 10. The more tired the baby is the better.

Babies at this age still usually need a night-time feed. You may want to consider having baby in your room so that it is easier to feed and less disturbing to both of your sleep. Baby is too young to understand that mummy is sleeping, although you could try having dad pick up and soothe the baby so you can get some more rest. Whatever you do don't leave the baby to cry, this creates a gap between you and your baby and baby learns that he cannot trust you to meet his needs and that night time is a time when he is abandoned, this can lead to sleep problems later in life.
William and Martha Sears have published several books on babies and breastfeeding, I would recommend having a look at these is you have the time!

It takes half an hour to do put him/her down then in about half an hour to an hour they are fast asleep an sleep through the night also. Good luck

I have 2 children and both sleep 7pm till 7am my yongest who is just 1 years old has slept through from birth. I strongly recomend this book by Gina Ford 'The complete sleep guide for contented babies and toddlers'. My first was a different story it took me 3 weeks when she was 6 months old to get in routine but I followed guide lines in this book and have never looked back. All about routine and day time structued sleep as they can even have too much sleep in day or not enough and fall in to deep sleep at bed time so in turn wake up early.

tough time ahead... when baby wakes in the night go and cover her/him back up give a little pat..do not pick it up do not talk to it and go back to bed, the baby will cry like mad and you will no doubt have a few horrible sleepless nights but this will work guaranteed after a few nights, do not rush back in every few minutes you can go back in every now and again and just repeat. It is really hard and some mums cannot stand to hear the baby cry but for those that can put up with it it works everytime. if she is on a good diet she doesnt need night feeds and just tell yourself that the best thing you can do for a child is get them into a good sleeping pattern as it helps them physically, emotionally and educationally.
as for bedtime, bath, bottle and put down and if you need to go back in to her, no lights on, no talking ,no cuddling, just settle them, little stroke and out.
this will be harder on you than the baby..be strong and good luck

Start weening baby gradually from you and during those times give a passy or bottle.
This is a tough time for you I know, but you are going to have to let baby cry it out and eventually he she will give in and let you get some sleep. Stay in the babies bedroom but do start working him or her away from the breast at night. It is OK during the day or what ever.

if you feed the baby something heavy on the belly before you normally put him down you will have a much better chance of him sleeping longer, however babies at that age rarely sleep through a full night but he might only wake up once or twice instead.
Each baby have there own habits.

My daughter is 11 months now and she would be awake half the night until about 9 months old. If she stirs now, as long as i know she is safe and just wanting attention, i leave her and she drops straight back off. Video monitors really help !!
