You get addicted to the nicotine real fast. When you smoke you usually smoke a cigarette every hour or so all day long, or more sometimes. You get used to smoking after you eat , when you talk on the phone, before you go to sleep, etc. part of it is psychological, you find it very hard to do any of those things without smoking. I smoked for over 20 yrs, I quit almost 1 yr ago only after almost dieing from 2 very bad asthma attacks in one day. I had no choice then, but it was still very hard. It's getting easier finally, but I still crave it at times.

You're both addicted and form habits.

So you're physically addicted, if the nicotine levels drop you will want it. You also develop habits around the smoking, say smoking on breaks at work, which are hard to break.

However it's not that hard to quit, people are just afraid to make the leap, because they know it'll be a pain in the ***. It's a big step to turn your life around. They don't remember that there was life before smoking, and they can have life again after smoking.

You should have to smoke for a very long time. If you are smoking of course it will be hard to stop. It won't be like what they say on TV because that is just a cover up on how hard it really is.

I don't have that problem going on and off cigarettes. I'll smoke three packs in a week and then not smoke again for two years. The longest that I have been a regular smoker was three months.

I enjoy it, but I don't do it every year.

The drug nicotine in cigarettes is highly addictive. Cigarette companies in the US have been found adding nicotine to the cigarettes to make the addiction stronger and ensure that people find it difficult to overcome the physical addiction
