Not stupid, just waaaaaaaay overused. i used to love it until the show Friends made it a fad name... I was so mad. But if your friend loves the name, then there is nothing wrong with naming her Emma. She just needs to be prepared for her daughter to go to school with 50 other girls that have the same name!

That was my great grandmothers name it is very nice and doesn't ever seem to get old. My daughters name is Emberlee( I used the Em from Emma and berlee from my husbands sister that passed) I find she is usually called Emmy or Emma and she likes them both.I don't think its stupid at all
**Edit** As for the Friends thing don't worry about it my daughter was born August 2002 right around when that show aired (I remember seeing it after she was born) and I was so upset because there would be soo many she is the only one in her pre kindergarten class ( I send her to 2 sets of pre kindergarten classes) she went to a different school last year and their were none there either. My neice is a year younger and my nephew a year older and there are no Emma's in either of their classes. So out of approximately 120 children born within a three year period around the airing of that show there is only one with Emma used as her name I would say don't worry.

My mother almost named me Emma. It's still one of her favorite names, I'm even considering it for when I decide to have children. No name is stupid. Emma is wonderful name for a child, and no matter the name as long as the parent likes it, nothing else matters.

I don't think Emma is a stupid Name that is the name of my daughters and Her grandmothers. I actually did a two-name to break up the monotony of the name. So I named her Emma Alyss .
