First off, look in your medicine cabinet and see if you have any Oragel or other toothache medicine. If you do, put some of that on your painful fingernail area. If you don't have any of that then go into the kitchen cupboard and look for ground cloves. If you have some, lick the tip of one of your fingers on your other hand and dip it in the cloves. Very gently rub the clove dust into the sore area. You can also use Chloraseptic spray, Bactine, or Campho Phenique. Keep in mind that whichever method you use, it will sting at first.

The only thing that may help aside from medication would be to keep it in a good ice pack, the coldness will eventually numb the pain, it may hurt some at first becasue its so cold but if you can handle that part eventually it will feel better-good luck

Ice works fine ..but take it from somone who has had a few broken bones..go from ice to heat..then repeat as often as you need till the pain is gone .also you can get medication over the counter that is not a narcotic..such as ibuprophen..it works great for sore bones..same as advil..or motrin.
