Others have answered correctly Thomas Jefferson was never in the Military. However he sure like to act like he was. He ridiculed Generals in the field and tried to reorganize the US Navy during his tenure. It was his "brilliance" that robbed the navy of any decent Ships during the War of 1812. He instead had us build Gunboats, Little more than rafts with a cannon on it. They were no match for the English Ships of the line. Thomas Jefferson even shot deserters on the White House lawn.

Babigurl is WAY OFF... the Hero of New Orleans would be Andrew Jackson...
Thomas Jefferson never served in the military... he was a member of Congress, the Governor of Virginia, Ambassador to France, Secretary of State, Vice President, and then President.
Mr. Jefferson was opposed to a professional military... he preferred a militia (citizen soldiers)

It was Andrew Jackson, not Thomas Jefferson, who was the hero of the battle of New Orleans. To my knowledge Thomas Jefferson never served in the military.
