I'm just looking for someone that has either tried tat b gone or tattoo-off. How well do they actually work? My boyfriend is looking for something to help fade something so he can get it covered up.
A couple websites said those were the two products that worked, just looking for some actual user opinions.

Its mostly black and red. It's a spider web with with a black widow spider on his colar bone. He's had it a for about 4 years now. He's got a lot of options as far as just covering it, but what he wants would require some more fading. One of the guys he asked about mentioned the new tattoo removal cream thing. He said he'd heard good things as far as fading, but not so much removal.

I feel like I didn't get the answer I needed. I know a OTC cream will NOT remove a tattoo. We're looking to fade it. We've got a good artist. And both of the creams I asked about specifically have "clinical" testing and rave reveiws on a number of websites. Thus why I'm asking about those two in particular. I'm more interested in hearing from people that have tried either of those in particular. THanks for all the other help too though.

Ashley, If you don't like the answers...that's just the way it is.
The stuff is crap...I have written many questiions to both of these companies, always ignored...and personally, I think one privatel labels for the other - Wrecking Balm is a cooler name so they figure maybe they will get more suckers.
Most everyone advises you against it - obviously it is not what you want to hear. So if you want to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars over many months...go ahead and read and believe their testimonials.
Have him get a second opinion on the cover up...if it is true that it has to get lightened, do it with laser - unless you can find an artist willing to over-tattoo it with salt water solution or comparables to lighten it up enough.

Home tattoo removal creams or kits DO NOT WORK. When you look at your tattoo......There is a clear layer of skin on top of the tatoo,(like glass over a print or painting) From what I have learned, at best these removal creams actually damage the top layer of skin and make it cloudy much like fogging up the glass over your painting (tattoo). Since your skin is constantly replenishing itself once you quit using the cream it will slowly get brighter and sharper again. But NO cream can remove a tattoo. If you are looking to fade a tattoo exposure to sunlight works to some extent (but is not good for your skin)
I wouldn't worry too much about fading it before a coverup. I'm having a tattoo covered Today two weeks.....and I have been doing my research.... You and the boyfriend should go to http://www.tattooartists.org/Gct22_Cover_Up_Tattoos.asp and look for an artist in your area who specializes in cover ups....good luck

From what I have heard, being in this industry, they don't work - it's much easier to find an artist to do cover up work, make it into something new that you like, than try to fade or remove old tats. I have seen dark and colorful tattoos made into something completely different looking - without having to fade it first... are you sure the artist advised fading it first? If he did, ask him how he expects it to happen. No one I know of says the creams work.

Sun works. How dark is the tat? how hlong has he had it? and what has his tat artist said? If he is doing a cover up, he may just have to find a design that has the same colors as he has now. and work with it. Ask a few proffesionals and go from there. But a cream?? sounds like a hoax to me.

The only sure way to remove a tattoo is laser removal. The OTC remedies might fade them but they do not remove them.

A faint, slight, almost negligable fade is all you can hope for. It's not worth a dollar.

tattoo-off works best, even though its not a huge difference in apperance. It fads the tattoo a bit, but still is very noticable.
